Those who associate the name Obscura with an album of Gorguts have to rethink. It’s not just an album by the Canadian Death Metal band anymore, but a self contained band with a style and influence that already has been revealed by the name.

.: The technical German death metal band Obscura was founded in 2002 by guitarist/vocalist Steffen Kummerer and drummer Jonas Baumgartl. The band caused a stir when they - out of nowhere - toured as support for Suffocation on their European tour in 2006 and when they independently released their debut album “Retribution” that same year.
Late 2007 - after several line-up changes - Obscura announced drummer Hannes Grossmann (ex-Necrophagist) and bass player Jeroen Paul Thesseling (ex-Pestilence) as new permanent members. Early 2008 the new lineup was completed by Christian Muenzner (ex-Necrophagist) as permanent guitarist.
Together they create their vision of the future of extreme metal. A symbiosis of death, thrash and black metal merged with progressive elements and technical as well as compositional demand. Currently Obscura is working on a pre-production for the second album, which will be released in 2008. :.
